Medical Transcription Tools

Wednesday, August 25th, 2010

When working as a medical transcriptionist you will absolutely need a medical dictionary. It will save you loads of research time. The best one we have found is Stedman’s Electronic Dictionary.

This product is in the neighborhood of 100 dollars but it is well worth it.

Is my GMail or Hotmail email account worthless as I train to be a Medical Transcriptionist?

Q:  Can I use “Free” email accounts when I am working as an MT or as a student?

A:  Some free internet email accounts only recognize plain text formatting.  This can lead to your emails being corrupted when they are received.  You won’t want to use these in the future if you have an alternative.  You can configure Outlook Express to work directly with your internet provider and you’ll really like it!  The free accounts are really only good for email between friends.  Business often requires Outlook or Outlook Express.  Your internet provider will walk you through the set up if you ask.

Computer Problems – Can You Help?

Thursday, June 5th, 2008

Q:   My computer is doing really weird things.  Can you call me and help me figure out what is wrong?

A:   Unfortunately, as much as I would like to help you, I can’t.  Although our school offers some technical assistance with course problems, we are not set up to offer any sort of in-depth technical assistance with individual computer issues.  You may want to find a local IT person who can help you.  In this line of work, your computer is your life line!  You will want to learn how to maintain it for maximum efficiency and always be sure to run a virus protection (like Norton) on it at all times.  Ultimately, your computer, and keeping it in good working order, is your responsibility and why we emphasize purchasing an excellent computer (tool) to do your work.
