How to understand corrections on your Medical Transcription typing test

Tuesday, October 27th, 2009

Q:  What do some of the corrections mean on my typing test?

A:  In a short summary, when the punctuations are hi-lighted such as commas, that means they added unnecessary punctuation. If it says something like this:  7×4(-)mm  that means what is inside the parentheses is something that should have been there but was not.

I know a lot of this seems very nitpicky and minor but just little changes and omissions can alter the whole meaning of a sentence.

Typing Unit – I Can’t Get 100% on the Scores

Thursday, June 5th, 2008

Q:   I just started your course, have completed the Orientation Unit and I am now doing the typing section.  No matter how hard I try, I cannot get 100%.  What do I do, as this is very discouraging to me.

A:   The Keyboard Kinetics unit is the only part of this course where we do not require 100%.  This unit will teach you how to type, and give you practice on typing.  It will show you your typing speed, and offer you a place where you can increase your typing speed.  Since this is a career where your speed will help to increase your income, you will want to utilize this unit to practice your typing.  I often tell my students to start out their study session each time by first warming up their fingers or practicing their typing in this unit.

Retake Quizes

Thursday, June 5th, 2008

Q:  I would like to go back and review a chapter of the course, and even retake the quiz at the end.  I currently show 98% on my scores, but am worried that in retaking the quiz I will mess something up.  What can I do?

A:  You can take the quiz at the end of each chapter as many times as you would like.  The computer is designed to always maintain and show your highest score.  I often suggest that students retake each quiz if they feel a need to review for the final exam or if they want to refresh their memory on certain subjects.  Because Med Workshops, LLC requires that you get 95% or higher on all your scores, it is often necessary to retake chapter quizzes until you get that required grade. I often encourage students to continue retaking the quiz until they get 100%.
